How it works

Jenkintown Exchange is a free neighborhood board — no accounts, no apps, no ads. Here's everything in plain language.

Looking for something?

Just browse the listings — no sign-up needed. You can search, filter by category (free stuff, for sale, wanted, curb alerts, lost & found, community notices), or filter to free items only.

See something you want? Click the listing, then "Contact the poster." Write your message, include your email, and the site forwards it to the poster. They reply directly to your inbox. You never see their email address, and they only see yours when you choose to contact them.

Posting something

  1. Click Post a listing and fill out the form — title, description, category, and your email. You can add up to 5 photos.
  2. Your post goes to a volunteer moderator for a quick review. It won't be visible until it's approved — usually within a few hours.
  3. Right away, you get a confirmation email with a private management link. This link is your key to the listing — keep the email!
  4. You'll get another email when your post goes live.

Your email address is encrypted and never shown publicly. Neighbors reach you only through the contact form.

Managing your listing

The private link from your confirmation email lets you, at any time:

  • Edit the title, description, price, or photos
  • Mark it sold or gifted once it finds a new home
  • Renew it for another 30 days if it's still available
  • Remove it completely

Don't share that link — anyone who has it can change your post.

How long do posts stay up?

  • Most listings last 30 days. A few days before yours expires, we email you a one-click renewal link. If you do nothing, it quietly disappears — no action needed.
  • Community notices last 180 days, since announcements tend to stay relevant longer.
  • Sold or gifted items stay in the listings with a SOLD or GIFTED badge for 14 days (so neighbors can see it found a home), then leave the site.
  • When a listing ends, its photos are deleted from our storage.

Staying safe

  • Meet in public spots when you can — the train station, Town Square, a coffee shop.
  • Don't put your exact address in a listing; the neighborhood is enough.
  • No payments happen through this site. Cash or whatever you arrange in person.
  • See something sketchy? Every listing has a Report link — a moderator will take a look.

Common questions

I lost my confirmation email. Can I still edit my post?

The private link only exists in that email, so search your inbox for "Jenkintown Exchange" first. Truly gone? Use the Report link on your own listing and ask a moderator for help.

Why isn't my post showing up?

It's probably still waiting for review — that usually takes a few hours. You'll get an email the moment it's approved.

Does this cost anything?

No. It's free, run by neighbors, with no ads and nothing to buy.

Who runs this?

Local volunteers who moderate posts and keep the lights on. See the about page.
